The moon cake festival originated in China thousands of years ago - yes that many moons ago (excuse the pun!). Emperors worshipped the harvest moon in Autumn as they believed this would bring them a bountiful harvest. This annual practice was eventually adopted by the upper class followed by the common folk. The most iconic of this annual tradition is of course the moon cake. It's one of the most important events in the Chinese calendar - right up there with CNY.
